I did not start the day on the treadmill. Working out everyday is my goal, I'm just not there yet.
My blood sugar was 397. I'm going to stop measuring so often. It's starting to frustrate me and I don't need that this early in the process. I'll check it once or twice a week. If by mid to late January it's not better, I'll talk to my doctor about upping my meds.
I had my soy protein shake with my meds. At work I had an omelet with mushrooms, sausage and Swiss cheese. Normally I would have also had four strips of bacon but I skipped it. I was plenty full.
With the office being about half full, the internal cafe, "Club 40" wasn't serving an entree at lunch and they only had salami for meat on the salad bar. (Now and then they have tofu.) So, I walked three blocks to a teriyaki place. The walk back is uphill! It took about twenty minutes. It's not the 30 minutes on the treadmill I should have gotten this morning, but it's more movement than I would have gotten - we'll call it a win. I also got meat and veggies, no sauce, no rice. The portion was larger than I should have had, but in all the meal was a win as well.
Dinner, while low carb, was a bit much. We'll call it the last hurrah. We needed to drop something off to a friend north of Seattle. So, my wife says, why don't we try the buffet at the Tulalip Casino. My mouth went "Sure!" before my brain could kick in. We SOOOO enable each other.
So, the bad news is the portions were rather large. The good news is that I kept the carbs to a minimum. I had the pot roast, some meat balls and a healthy portion of alder wood smoked salmon. I've been wanting more fish in my diet! For dessert, I had a large portion of fruit salad: grapes, pineapple, melon, oranges. I didn't get any bread, rice, pasta, fried chicken or ... dessert!!! And there was plenty there.
Did I mention the desserts? OY!
If I were to go again, I'd do the steamed veggies and the salmon and the fruit.
So, all low carb and avoiding temptations. Need to work on daily exercise and portion control.

You could just walk to lunch every day- you'd have lots of motivation to do it- no walk, no lunch! Jarred (yeah, the Subway guy) lost all his weight by walking to his Subway everyday then getting a low cal sub. Find somewhere near your work that serves a good low carb lunch and walk there daily. Don't bring any lunch with you and make sure you don't eat at the easily reached food in the lobby of your own building. Or... if you do... use the stairs to get back to your office.
Little things like parking the car far away in the parking lot also help. And to me, this sort of thing would be easier to deal with than a treadmill in the living room where there's no scenery and no human interaction. But that's just me.
Keep it up, Jer! You're doing great so far.
Yeeeah, Club 40 is named for the 40th floor - the same floor I'm on. I walk through the "Elevator Lobby" to get there, but there are no stairs or elevators involved. Talk about too easy to get food!
I'd like to walk out and get lunch more often and I think I will. Up to now, it seemed like everytime I went out to lunch, I'd have to rush back because something broke. I usually just walk over to Club 40 and bring my lunch back to my desk. Maybe I can change that.
I've got a pretty good set up with the treadmill and once I'm on it there's no problem, it's actually enjoyable. I have a fan, a drink and I have the iPod set up playing episodes of Red Dwarf or music. It's dragging my fat ass out of a warm and comfy bed to do it.
I'll figure it out somehow.
